Early season heat covered the central Canadian Prairies Friday.
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, soared to 75, just 2 degrees shy of their
record for the date and more than 30 degrees above their normal high
for the date of 43.
Torrential downpours along the northeast coast of Sumatra early
Saturday soaked Belewan with over 8 inches of rain in less than 12
hours time.
A slow-moving front plodded northward across northern Argentina,
southern Paraguay and southern Brazil Friday. It unleashed heavy
rainfall in it's path. Posadas, in northeast Argentina, had 3.25
inches of rain in 18 hours time. Encarnation, in southern Paraguay,
was deluged with 4.85 inches in a similar time frame, while Sao Luiz
Gonzaga, in southern Brazil had 2.59 inches.
A powerful storm lashed the Antarctic Peninsula just south of
South America Friday and Friday night with sustained winds over 70
mph. These strong winds raised clouds of snow that reduced visibility
to near zero at times.
As of early Saturday, Tropical Cyclone Adeline-Juliet was 610 miles
south-southwest of Diego Garcia, near 17.5 degrees south and 69.4
degrees east. Movement was to the west-southwest at 17 mph. This is a
very dangerous storm with sustained winds around 145 mph and gusts to
near 170 mph. Fortunately, the storm is now over open ocean. A
west-southwest to southwest track and slight weakening are foreseen
the next few days. The storm will likely pass just east of the lone
island of Rodriguez Sunday and then continue heading through open
ocean east and southeast of Mauritius early next week.
