Talas is no longer a tropical storm; it has weakened to a tropical

depression over the open Philippine Sea. Late Wednesday afternoon,
EST, Tropical Depression Talas has top sustained winds near 35 mph.
Centered about 335 miles to the north of Koror, Palau, the depression
is moving towards the west at 7 mph. The cyclone is forecast to drift
towards the west and the northwest over open seas for the next 2-3
days with little change in intensity.
Erzurum, for example, morning lows were -13, -11 and -10 degrees,
respectively, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday versus the 13-degree mean
daily minimum for December. Kars dipped to -7, -5 and -12 degrees on
these three days, and could only muster a high of 8 on Wednesday
whereas an average day in mid December would have a low of 12 and a
high of 29.
100-110 degrees were widespread within the interior and the high heat
even made it to some southern coastal sites. Esperance, for instance,
was at least 106 degrees. Far to the north, Cape Leveque was even
hotter than usual; the high was 114 degrees or 13 degrees above
average.
Santiago del Estero reached at least 108 degrees versus an average
high of 91. Catamarca and Las Lomitas each showed 105 degrees at
midafternoon whereas the daily mean high in December is in the middle
90s.
