Two tropical systems hitting the state of Florida in one day is not
unprecedented -- but as far as meteorologists can tell it's a
once-in-a-lifetime event.

 From AccuWeather.com:

"Tropical Storm Bonnie and Hurricane Charley will strike the west coast of
Florida within a day of each other. The shortest time between a hurricane
or tropical storm landfalls in Florida was in 1906. Storm 9 that year made
landfall north of Dayton Beach as a tropical storm at 7 am on October 17.
Just 12 hours later, storm 8 made landfall in extreme southern tip of
Florida as a hurricane."
