Last night, we cooled down to -4 F here at WeatherMatrix HQ in State
College PA. This is a new all-time record low since I have lived here (6.5
years). The previous record was set last March at 0 degrees. At 12pm
today we had only reached 8 degrees. The normal LOW for today is 18 degrees.

Northeast PA saw a similar drop in temperatures overnight. Temps got so
low that the anemometer froze here. At 5 AM, the low for the day was -10 F
and is now slowly recovering
with -3.1 at 10:46 AM here in Milford at 1400 ft.

----Being the winter fan, I took a little drive tonight to see how cold it was in the outlying areas in Centre County. My car thermometer is pretty accurate, which read 2F in State College at 1am when I left (KUNV was 3F). I travelled to Gatesburg, but it was only 0F there. It was coldest in Black Moshannon Park. At the lake, it was -4F around 1:15am. Then northeast of the lake on Rt. 504 (elev. 2300'-2400'), it dropped to a bone-chilling -9F. It was nearly as cold as Bradford. I'm sure it's going to get colder near daybreak. Also, it was -4F in Snowshoe.
