Last night was one of the coldest nights on record
here in Baiting Hollow, NY. The temperature dropped
to 3º, just one degree above the all time low, with a
wind chill running -12º. Wind chill was as low as
-37º using the old equation, which was the fourth
lowest on record. My wind chill alarm was going off
all night until it finally bottomed out at 1am...of
course, thats when the temperature alarm started going
off. Luckily that only lasted for a few minutes.
Right now its 10º with a -1º wind chill and a NW wind
at 10mph.
The prospect of light winds tonight intrigues me
as the dewpoint is still -3º...although it could like
yesterdays -12º. Either way it's going to be a very
cold night.
One side note. I'm proud to say that my VP is
going strong again, after the reception issue around
Christmas. It recorded a THSW of -10º lastnight and a
low of 3.2º. Right now it still reads 5º even with a
solar radiation of 387w/m2! What makes this most
amazing is that the anemometer for the VP is only 7ft
off the ground.
I'm still hoping for a sub zero night, or at
least zero. I've never seen a thermometer read zero
degrees before...of course that excludes the little
thermometer in the frozen food section of King Kullen.
Oh well, that's enough for me.
Artie
