With all the talk lately about Global Warming it is hard to believe we are
in the grips of a record breaking Arctic outbreak here in New England. A
record low was set this morning at KPVD in RI of -1 as of 7am breaking the
old record of 3 above back in 1981. Some folks may remember how cold a
winter 1981 was around these parts.
Here at my home a few miles west (inland) from KPVD I had -6.5 (-7) for a
low and this is the coldest I've measured since weather observing back in
1985. My previous record was -5 . Of course the 90's and early 2000's
have been fairly mild with above average temps overall with numerous record
highs.
This was pure Arctic air as we only have a trace of snow cover on the
ground, and the winds were constant all night long creating -20 to -30
degree wind chills using the new chart.
Temps today may break the high low min and barely nudge 10 above. Below
zero temps likely again tonight.
Granted we should try to cut back on polluting but an Arctic outbreak
like this makes me scratch my head and ask myself is the Earth really
warming like some scientists believe? Surely we wouldn't be in the grips
of the Arctic cold if the Winters are getting warmer?
Thank you for your time.
