Torrential rains have been the norm here in the mid-Atlantic/Northeast for over a week now, but most of my town has been spared the worst of it. That is until yesterday.
The Mercerville section of Hamilton Township, NJ, picked up 3.7" of rain yesterday in just under two hours (1 hour 53 minutes to be exact). It was an extremely small cell (area-wise) that parked right over us.
About 0.5 miles northwest of my location received only 0.30" in the same time period, and an area 1 mile southeast of me got absolutely nothing. The best I can get from friends on other locations is that the cell formed about 5 miles south of us and headed almost due north over our location (very slowly) and then died out about 2 miles to the north.
That comes to only 7 miles of travel in about 2 hours.
Unfortunately, I can't even find a local certified weather station with the same results since it was in such a small area. My street looked like the Delaware River for a time as we live near the bottom of a hill near the storm drains.
Probably the strangest part of it was that I only heard about 6 claps of thunder the entire time, and the sky was fairly bright.
Eric - really happy he cleaned his gutters the other day.
