[STORMREPORTS] Problems in NC

From: Cary D. Gentry (gentrycd{at}co.forsyth.nc.us)
Date: Fri Dec 06 2002 - 11:27:27 EST

In Greensboro our power has been out for over 24hrs and with as many
trees, power poles, and power lines down, there is no telling when it
will be back on. This storm is very comperable to hurricane Fran
which knocked out power for 3 days at my house. The Gov. has declared
a state of emergency for the entire state. One more problem, the
wind is starting to pick up!

Being a meteorologist, I like(love)winter and extreme weather but
I've had my share. I just wish it was all snow...the ice really
causes problems. You don't realize how much you take things, like
power for granted.

Here's a link my work's visibility cam about 20mi N of Winston-Salem.
I think it is a cool picture this morning. The weather data is from
a Davis Vantage Pro on top of our roof in downtown Winston-Salem, NC.
The station is also on weather underground.
