An F-2 Tornado tore through Jackson Township in Stark County around 2 pm Sunday afternoon April 28, 2002. A skip path 7 miles long and as wide as a quarter mile ransacked most of the area. Damage:
Roofs torn off of houses was a common sight. One small house completely collapsed. A nearby shopping mall had a sign blow over. Many houses suffered minor damage, but quite a few had major strucural damage. A nearby middle school had severe roof damage over the gymnasium and nearby rooms, but the building itself was structurally sound.
Golf ball sized hail was reported. A few witnesses reported seeing a funnel cloud, but those in its path don't recall seeing a funnel cloud. Straight line wind damage was thought to be the cause, but was later determined to be the F2 tornado.
