Friday night rains began around 10:00PM with really just sprinkles,
however Saturday August 11th severe thunderstorms, intense lighting, and
torrential rains began around 1:00AM and by 7:00AM we had received a
total of 2.7 Inches of rainfall. It again rained throughout the day
adding another 1.6 inches to our already saturated grounds. Sunday
August 12th we had another bout with Mother Nature dropping trees,
disrupting power (7 ½ hours), and leaving another 2.8 inches throughout
the day. We all had lost power around 3:45 PM and didn't see any
service restored until around 12:30AM. On Monday August 13th, the rains
began to diminish but still left another 1.4 inches by days end.
The creeks from Mc Gees Crossroads, Benson, Smithfield, and Dunn are
beginning to swell and overflow their banks. Last night traveling the
back roads, many streams were overflowed up to the center of the road
causing more traffic hazards. A new bridge under construction on Route
50 N Benson, the water level was beginning to breach the lower portion
of the underneath. Low lying areas now have mini and maxi sized ponds.
The forecast for the next few days is mild and NO RAIN.
