11/8/96 08:00 Location: 615 Hillsborough St., Raleigh

It was 8am but in the 70's and windy while I was at my 'real' job in south Raleigh. Dark scud clouds drifted over the downtown sky. Something was up.

An intense frontal system was heading towards us and once it hit the extrememly warm air in eastern NC, the decent squall line was likely to turn more severe.

Report:

11/8/96 ~12:00 Location: 615 Hillsborough St., Raleigh

Around noon the first line of heavy thunderstorms swept through Wake County.

At my location in South Raleigh, the weather quickly turned nasty.

Heavy rains began, with occasional thunder, and wind reminiscent of the hurricane two months prior. Visibility was greatly reduced by sheets or rain.

This continued on for nearly a half-hour, causing minor street flooding downtown. As the storm departed, we were left with a beautiful view of the boiling underside of the anvil.

I wish that I could give more detail but I waited to long to file the report and had forgotten much of it. Commentary on the videotape was sparse as to not disturb my coworkers.
