The Results are in! (Of this year's Weather Sites on the Net contest).

OK, so it was just me. But for someone who is logged onto the Internet an average of 100 hours per week, much of that looking at weather-related data, I've certainly formed some views of the major Internet Weather Service Providers. If you disagree with me then make your own page, I'll even link it from here. Just tell me. Here they are in no particular order (because Netscape Navigator Gold's HTML Editor doesn't let you move table rows around...) Rating system is as follows:

1.......................10
Bad.....................Good

J's Most Used Weather Sites 1996

Site $ Amount of Info Timeliness of Data Server UpTime Overall Score
The Weather Channel $0 9 6 7 7.3
Intellicast $0 7 5 3 5.0
American Weather Concepts $5 7 10 10 9.0
Accu-Weather $0 5 1 3 3.0

NOTES: I would have liked to review WeatherLabs but I haven't had enough experience with them. I could not rate WeatherNet because they lack any original graphical information. Prices ($) are monthly fees. Intellicast's server was down for a good part of this year, although it seemed to have improved in December, although periodic outdated- or missing- informational periods were still observed. TWC's uptime also seemed to have improved in the last couple of months. Server uptime carries a lot of weight; if it ain't there you can't get to it. The only thing that hurt AWC was that they lack information outside of NexRad. As far as NexRad data in concerned, they are a perfect 10. AccuWeather lost a lot of points because they purposely make their data 3 hours late.
