Netscape Navigator Gold 3.01 : Tutorial
OK, let's say you were going to edit this here page.
See the pencil icon
at
the top of the browser? Click it.
You'll see a Save Remote Document window. Make sure that the Adjust links to assist... checkbox is CHECKED and the Save images with... is CHECKED. The rule is: if you are editing your document on your server, don't save the images. If you're editing someone else's document do save the images. In most cases you'll be editing your own document but for this tutorial you'll be editing mine. Then just say OK and pick a location to save it to your hard drive.
Can you still see me? Good. Whoa, the buttons at the top of the browser have changed! That's OK, they are just the editor buttons. They do the same things that the pull down windows do.
Now you're ready for some basic editing. If you're familiar with HTML you will recognize many of the commands. If not, refer to the Netscape Gold Handbook.
Highlight this text (click and drag your mouse):
The quick brown fox jumped over something.
Notice that if you click the Italics Icon
or
the
Bold Icon at the top while
the text is still hightlighted, it changes the text as requested. This
is just a quick example of editing to make sure your editor is working
correctly. Go ahead and press both buttons. Now your text is Bold and Italic.
Click elsewhere on the document to unhighlight it.
There's about a million other things you can do, which we won't go into now. You can read all about it in the official Handbook.
What we do want to do now is to upload the file to your server. Of course, unless you have my password, you can't upload it to where it was, on www.webpress.net, but you can upload it to your WWW server.
You'll want to click on the Publish
button
now. If you haven't saved the document lately it will prompt you
for that.
Under Publishing Location you'll want to put the directory in which you want the file uploaded to. Let's say your server is mercury.interpath.net and the full path to the main directory for your HTML files is /usr/home/yourname/public_html. In this case you'd want to enter this:
ftp://freedom.interpath.net//usr/home/yourname/public_html
Enter your ftp Username and Password, click OK, and it should upload. Now you should be able to view this document on the web at your home site.
