Just my two cents.
The southeast is a different territory than the plains (obviously).
But chasing here requires different methods than what works out
west.
The trick to chasing here, IMHO, is to limit your range to the
territory you're familar with and let the storms come to you. If
you get to know a locale, you're more likely to find severe weather
because you'll learn where the local "alleys" are. For example,
over the last several years, I've noticed that severe storms often
tend to swing north of my house and follow the base of the mountains
a few miles from here. Storms coming in from a slightly different
direction, however, often come right over the house.
For experienced chase teams who want to go farther afield, recent
improvements in forecasting make it possible to scout out an area
several days in advance, looking for areas with good visibility
and escape routes. But hairing off into unfamiliar territory is
just asking for trouble.
Enough outta me.
