For those of you who enrolled in this organization under the name
Carolina Area Storm Investigators, let me take this moment to welcome
you to the "new" organization: the Central Atlantic Storm Investigators.
Coverage has now expanded to an area from Pennsyvlania to the Carolinas.
I hope that the organization will continue to be important to you all,
and I have a lot of plans for the next year.
The name-change updates to the website are complete as of this evening.
The content on the site has changed little, other than a reorganization
of the main page. If you have icons linking to
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/casismall.gif please resize your icons;
the new logo is a different size. If you have an icon linking to
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/casimembersmall2.gif please change the
link to casismall.gif; this image no longer exists.
The only major addition to the website is the CASICAM, a live web cam
view from my new house, however I am dismayed to report that it is not
working so well. The QuickCam that I bought doesn't seem suited well
for outdoor photography, and in fact the camera itself may be broken. I
think the next step is to return it for a different one and see if the
problems persist. Beyond that I am also having trouble finding
auto-update software. I paid for a product that I thought would do the
job but it only updates when I'm offline and refuses to run the program
while I am online. If you've had any luck on automatically (scheduled)
connecting through dial-up networking, uploading a file, and
disconnecting please let me know. Also let me know if you have any
experience with the Color QuickCam II. The address for the new CASICAM
is http://www.weatherwatchers.org/wxcam/ I hope to have it working
soon.
I miss the Carolinas already, however I do not miss the heat. We
haven't been above 80 for a couple of weeks here, and have been down to
near 40. There were some decent thunderstorms in our area last weekend,
in fact a Tornado Warning was issued for my county, however I was kept
inside by a biking accident from 2 weeks ago. I did take some video of
some rather interesting clouds and night-time lightning.
Work is going well. As many of you know, I just started a new job at
AccuWeather. The company is a bit behind technologically, but I hope to
improve that. I am one of several people in charge of their website and
their client websites. (Yes I've already asked for better Nexrads on
Your Personal Accuweather ;)) I have found a worthy chase partner at
work, who is a Senior Meteorologist there. He is assisting the NWS at
State College in some sort of Nexrad vs. Ground Truth study, which I
look forward to helping with next year if possible as we chase
Pennsylvania storms.
