Hi folks!
Just a quick message about happenings here at CASI.
Next year, I intend to revamp the CASI website to make it more
accessible and useful by all of us. This will include a Members Only
section with e-mails of members near you, archives of this list, and
other things. It will also include some sort of interactive form for
Members and Non-Members to submit Storm Reports to CASI for inclusion in
our Recent Weather section. I have a few other ideas in the works too.
If you have any ideas, let me know and I may incorporate them.
Meantime, as of tomorrow, November 1, I have added a couple of really
neat things to the CASI website. One is a page giving a detailed
description of how I installed the WX-200 Electronic Weather Station at
HQ during October. Also from this page you can get a screen capture of
the weather at HQ, captured througout the day by me until I can find an
automation process. I must admit that attempting to do a screen capture
and disk save under Win3.11 (even not automatically) is quite hellish.
In any case the URL is: http://www.weatherwatchers.org/wxstation/
The second is that I believe that the CASICAM, our webcam, is finally
operational, after several months of testing hardware and software. It
automatically updates the view from HQ every 30 minutes. An archive is
also available of some of the more interesting shots. The URL for that
is:
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/wxcam/
As far as weather here at HQ, it has been very cold; I'm still having
trouble getting used to this Pennsylvania weather. A cold fall day here
is like the COLDEST winter day in Raleigh ;) So far we have had 4 days
with snow flurries.
News from other Members:
BJ forwards a warning to not execute a program called "hdclear.exe"
which may be a virus.
Skip forwards a note that the Scanner Bill in Congress has been passed
as an amended bill which "only requires that scanner manufacturers
eliminate cellular and PCS frequencies"
A reminder to contact Chris Phillips <stormchaser{at}coastalnet.com> if you
would like to be involved in his Eastern North Carolina Weather Watchers
group, he is sending out a weekly newsletter and sounds like he has some
interesting and exciting ideas for the group.
Recent Member Mark Hardiman of Rhode Island says that he is preparing to
observe the possible nor-easter which will be riding up the coast
tomorrow.
Talk to you folks later.
