Well, here comes the rain, not much excitement so far however. See
http://ws321.uncc.edu/data/raw/WWUS/WWUS35/WWUS35.KRDU
for today's severe weather outlook for Central NC.
It appears that the Raleigh radar (RAX) is down since 11 this morning.
The FREE TEXT MESSAGE from 16:16 says:
"RAX 88D Wideband has failed. OSF believes the problem is at the RDA
site and needs a manual reboot. We have been unable to notify
maintenance so cannot estimate the time service will be restored. In
the meantime the phone company is checking the circuit just in case."
The FTM is an alphanumeric message broadcast as a NEXRAD product when
conditions warrant. I got this from
http://www.dukepower.com/weather/images/rax/raxnaf.bmp
which may not be accessible by everyone, anyone know if these are
broadcast elsewhere (AFOS or otherwise?)
Welcome to new members Tim Armstrong and Corbett Weinberg. Tim is an
old college friend of mine, and I can vow for his extreme interest in
weather as much as he could for me. Corbett comes to us from just
outside of Boston. He is our first member from the NE US, and we look
forward to interaction with him.
The NC Storm Chasers (organizational member of CASI) note that they have
a Java-enabled CHAT room, #STORMCHASER, available from their website
http://www.cqws.com/zone3/ncstormchasers/
This might be a good place for some of us to hang out, especially on
days of potential severe weather, if you're an online fanatic with a
Java-enabled browser. I'll certainly try to be there when I can.
