HEADLINES:

Trend Favors Increased Heat Across Most Of Lower 48 States, Colder Than
Normal Readings In Canada (And A Great Deal Of Severe Weather Close To The
International Border); Emily Is Now A Hurricane With Threats To Mexico And Texas

EXPECTED NORTH AMERICA SEVERE OR EXTREME WEATHER NEXT 24 HOURS:

(broad brush area outlined below in the SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK) is for
torrential rainfall. The approach of a weak IcP front into the Northeast may increase
potential for rain and thunder in that region today and tomorrow.
Blazing heat remains in control of the western states, excluding the Pacific
Northwest which is close to the Gulf of Alaska storm sequence. One strong
shortwave over the Prairie provinces could bring tornadic supercells and
torrential rains to MB and parts of the Upper Midwest today before the impulse minors
out into Hudson Bay. A far more impressive low and frontal structure now
approaching BC will be in position to trigger widespread severe weather this
weekend, beginning Saturday over AB....MT....SK....ND, close to the convergence point
of mP, cTw, and mT air masses.
