March 12, 2005 4:07 p.m.

Tightly-wound Tropical Cyclone Ingrid is nearing a landfall on
the Cobourg Peninsula of northernmost Australia. Early Saturday
afternoon, EST, the eye of Ingrid is over Mountnorris Bay and nearing
a landfall. Heading towards the west at 11 to 12 mph, Ingrid holds
highest sustained winds of about 130 mph. A track mostly towards the
west is forecast; this would take the storm`s eye towards Melville
and Bathurst islands somewhat north of Darwin city over the next 12
to 24 hours. Without a doubt, Ingrid be watched intently by residents
of Darwin.

The eye of Ingrid made landfall on one or two of the Wessel
Islands of northernmost Australia early Saturday, local time. Highs
winds were likely well above 100 mph right along the path of Ingrid`s
eye. At Gove, the brush with Ingrid brought rainfall of 9.0 inches and
winds that likely topped hurricane strength in gusts.

Sprawling Tropical Cyclone Willy is over the Indian Ocean off
northwestern Australia. Late Saturday morning, EST, the core Willy is
305 miles west-northwest of Learmonth, Western Australia. Drifting
towards the southwest at 8 mph, Willy owns highest sustained winds of
85 mph. Willy is forecast to keep clear of land off northwestern
Australia for at least the next two days.

As of early Saturday afternoon, local time, a torrential tropical
rain storm had ended at Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The 24-hour
outburst left 12.0 inches.

Never mind that abnormal warmth has spread over western Canada
since some time in February (depending upon region), Friday`s warmth
stood out in its own right. Warmest was the high plains of
southernmost Alberta, where Lethbridge was the biggest town to top 70
degrees. The average daily high at Lethbridge is 38 degrees. Calgary
reached 69 degrees which made for a new record for the date.
Temperatures to nearly 70 degrees were observed in southwestern
Saskatchewan; Val Marie hit 69 degrees. It was but another balmy day
at Fort Saint John, BC, where the departure from monthly average
temperature to date held above 26 degrees.

Sondrestromfjord, southwestern Greenland, was about 40 degrees
warmer than average in reaching 47 degrees on Friday. In far southern
Greenland, Narsarsuaq rose to 58 degrees, or about 30 degrees above
average.

Weather over southern Germany was truly wintry Saturday, what
with strong and blustery winds, bursts of heavy snow and the like.
Regensburg picked up 5 inches of new snowfall, snow being punctuated
by thunder and lightning. Farther south, winds of 40-50 mph raked
Munchen (Munich). Atop Grosser Arber in the Bohmer Wald, a fresh 10
inches of wind-driven snow boosted snow cover to nearly 110 inches on
the 4700-foot peak.

In western and south-central China, mid week brought springlike
warm with readings of 70 to 80 degrees on one or two days. Friday
through Saturday, a rude reality check followed with biting winds
turning a soaking rain to sleet and snow over a wide area. Yichang
warmed to 76 degrees Thursday, but had about one-half foot of snow by
daybreak, Saturday.
