Yesterday held some very cold temperatures at WeatherMatrix HQ. None were
records although I don't have records immediately accessible for all hours
of the day.

We started out at sunrise with 2 degrees.
At sunset we were at 9 degrees (this may have been a record).
At 9 pm we were at 6 degrees.
After that, a "warm" wind kicked up and we warmed to 14 degrees overnight.
The coldest wind chill yesterday was -21 and we have matched that already
this morning with the gusty winds.

Elsewhere in the nation, the coldest official temperature recorded in the
last couple days was:
01/17/2005-12Z -45.4 F at BIGFORK MN (FOZ)
and yesterday was
01/18/2005-09Z -29.2 F at SILVER BAY MN (BFW)
though NWS reported
LOW TUE...31 BELOW ZERO AT CLARKSBURG MI

There was a claim of -54 in the media but this temperature was NOT reported
by the National Weather Service or AccuWeather in their national extremes
report.
