January 14, 2005 6:14 p.m.

An un-named tropical storm is over the western North Pacific Ocean
near the middle Caroline Islands. Late Friday afternoon, EST, the
storm holds highest sustained winds near 40 mph. Centered 350 miles
west of Chuuk, Micronesia, and 480 miles south-southeast of Agana,
Guam, the storm is tracking towards the northwest at 6 mph. The
cyclone is forecast to swing towards the north within the next day or
two whilst strengthening; this would put it on a path towards the
southern Mariana Islands, such as Guam.

Rainfall at Chuuk, Micronesia, was 7.9 inches within 48 hours as
of early Saturday morning, local time. The downpours stemmed from a
tropical depression which grew into the aforementioned tropical storm.

A tropical cyclone is spinning over the North Indian Ocean. Late
Friday afternoon, EST, the cyclone is centered 510 miles
east-southeast of Colombo, Sri Lanka, where it holds highest sustained
winds near 40 mph. The cyclone is forecast to drift sluggishly towards
the west and northwest over open seas with little change in strength
during the next 2-3 days.

Thursday's shot of springlike warmth broke records in Ontario,
Canada. Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa all set record highs, not only
for the date, but for the whole of January. The actual numbers were:
64 degrees at Toronto, 63 at Hamilton, and 55 at Ottawa. The high of
57 degrees reached at London was a high mark for the date. In
southwestern Quebec, the high of 62 degrees at Anicet, not far from
Montreal, was likely a challenger for January`s warmest ever.

Early Friday, Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada, broke a record daily low
temperature for a third-straight day. The old mark of -45 degrees,
last reached in 1996, was bested by three degrees. Coldest of the
three days was Thursday, which had 52 degrees below zero. Elsewhere
in Yukon, lowest as of early Friday morning was 61 below at Mayo.
Dawson was at least 57 degrees below zero.

January is off to a spring-like start in Moscow, Russia, where,
as of Thursday, the mean temperature for the first 13 days was 21
degrees above average. On no day did the temperature hold below
freezing. And this follows a December that was warmer than average by
nearly seven degrees.

In Australia's state of South Australia, the week is ending even
hotter than average. Thursday and Friday each set a high of 114
degrees at Oodnadatta whereas the average daily high at this part of
the year is 99. At Marree, Friday was more than 15 degrees hotter than
average as the temperature reached at least 114 degrees.
