Extremely high pressures have been recorded in Alaska during the past few
days, over 31.00"Hg. It is rare for pressure to get over 31 inches of
mercury but the all-time world record is just over 32".

This has also caused high temperatures. Temperatures were in the 50s again
Friday, setting ALL-TIME records for the MONTH of January.

...COLD BAY RECORDS HIGHEST PRESSURE IN MORE THAN 30 YEARS...

AN UNUSUALLY STRONG HIGH PRESSURE HAS MOVED IN OVER THE
ALASKA PENINSULA TODAY PRODUCING MAINLY CLEAR SKIES AND LIGHT
WINDS. THE AVERAGE STATION PRESSURE IN COLD BAY TODAY WAS
30.80 INCHES OF MERCURY. THIS IS THE HIGHEST ONE DAY AVERAGE
SINCE DECEMBER 20TH 1971 WHEN 30.87 INCHES OF MERCURY WAS
RECORDED. WHEN REDUCED TO SEA LEVEL THE PRESSURE REACHED A
PEAK OF 30.99 INCHES OF MERCURY. FURTHER EAST ON THE
PENINSULA SEA LEVEL PRESSURES EXCEEDED 31.00 INCHES IN SAND
POINT..CHIGNIK..AND PORT HEIDEN WHICH RECORDED 31.06 INCHES
OF MERCURY.
