Ryukyu Islands. Late Tuesday afternoon, EDT, Rananim wields top
sustained winds of 85 mph about a center which is 225 miles
south-southwest of Naha, Okinawa, and 140 miles southeast of Miyako
Jima. The typhoon is bearing towards the northwest at 8 mph. Rananim
is forecast to cut a northwestward path between Okinawa and Taiwan
over or near the Sakishima Islands during the next 24-36 hours, then
head for the central China coast.
the western North Pacific Ocean. This depression is centered 755 miles
northwest of Wake Island as of late Tuesday afternoon, EDT. With
highest sustained winds a little shy of 30 mph, the depression is
moving northeastward at 13 mph. Slow strengthening on a northeastward,
open-water heading is forecast for this cyclone during the next 2-3
days.
Mexico. Within about three hours, 5.1 inches of rain poured down upon
the city. August's average rainfall here is about 2.5 inches, so these
downpours were twice the monthly mean.

Tuesday evening, local time, was 4.3 inches at Eskdalemuir. In
England, Wittering collected 3.7 inches of rain during the same time.
Both Leeming and Watnall, England, were doused by 2.6 inches of rain.
