"Tornado and flash flood warnings were issued Friday across counties in
central and eastern North Carolina as storm systems loaded with violent
rain and wind marched across the region.

There were few reports of damage, though at least one traffic death was
blamed on the weather. There were also reports of flooding in some areas.

Bill Silverthorne, emergency management director for Martin County, said a
severe thunderstorm system brought 50 to 60 mph winds and pea-sized hail,
but no reports of major damage.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Edgecombe and Pitt counties as
the storm system moved across the eastern North Carolina coastal plain.

Earlier, tornado warnings were issued for northern Wayne County and
portions of Johnston County.

A funnel cloud was spotted moving northeast at 15 mph near Princeton, 40
miles east of Raleigh, the weather service said. Heavy rain moved through
the area."
