"Strong winds blew in shortly after 5 a.m., uprooting and snapping trees,
causing power outages, and blocking roads. Some people reported hearing the
freight-train-like roar often associated with tornadoes, which are rare in
the mountains.

The weather service characterized it as "straight-line wind damage," though
a spokesperson said that winds would have had to reach 70 miles per hour to
uproot and snap such large trees."
