"PENDLETON, Ore. - The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado
touched down near Pendleton, Ore. on Sunday afternoon.

Marilyn Lohmann of the National Weather Service said the tornado was
sighted by the workers in the tower at the Pendleton Airport. A tornado
warning was issued.

Lohmann said the small "rope" type twister was very near Interstate 84 but
was moving through predominantly rural areas. Within a short time, the
tornado rose off the ground, becoming a funnel cloud. The warning was
canceled at 5:37 p.m. There were no immediate reports of damage."
