Typhoon Nida early Saturday morning EDT is currently just to the
northeast of the Phillipines. Though the storm remains offshore, the
heavy rainfall and strong winds are over the central Phillipine
islands. The center of the storm was located near 9.6 degrees north
and 129.2 degrees east, or about 650 miles southeast of Manila.
Maximimum sustained winds with this storm were 105 mph with gusts to
125 mph. The storm was moving to the west at 8 knots, though a jog to
the northwest is expected over the next 24-36 hours. This storm will
likely continue to move close to the islands and could possibly
strike the northern island of the Phillipines of Luzon.
Tropical Storm Juba continues to hold onto its last breathe in
the South Indian Ocean early Saturday morning. The storm was
continuing to die down from its peak and was near 14.0 degrees south
and 65.9 degrees east with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph with the
highest gusts to 45 mph. This storm will continue to die off as it
slowly moves westward over the southern Indian Ocean. This movement
is not typical of most storms over the area which curve to the south
and east. This storm is moving to the north-northwest at 11 mph.
Much of southern Vietnam is preparing for heavy rainfall as a
weak tropical disturbance continues to move onshore. Though most of
the area will continue to see the heavy rainfall through the next
24-36 hours, the worst of the storm will continue to be over the
South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
A storm continues to blow through the northern parts of Saudi
Arabia and into Iraq as winds up to 35 mph are blowing the sand and
dust across the deserts. As the winds blow the sand and dust, the
visibilities continue to drop. In Turaif, Saudi Arabia, blowing dust
brought visibility down to nearly 1 mile and in Tabruk, Saudi Arabia,
visibilities dropped below one mile.
