Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the wind tunnel of the mid Atlantic.
People who live around my homestead in the hills have learned to batten down
the hatches when the wind blows out of the east. It compresses up against South
Mountain and screams down the other side to the homes below. At 8:03 PM
(Monday) the wind gusted out of the east at 71 mph. It caused widespread damage to
properties along side the western slope of the mountain. I lost a small section
of roof along with a large wooden swing set and a wooden dog house that was
turned into kindling. An out build was destroyed in my neighbor's yard and a
house further up the road lost a wall. The average wind for the day was a
shocking 49.7 mph. It is 2:30 AM on Tuesday and the wind is still out of the east at
25 gusting to 39. The 71 mph wind gust is a new April high gust surpassing a
68 mph gust set on April 1, 1982. My homestead received 1.61 inches of rain.
That is a new record for the date surpassing 1.52 inches set in 1981. The high
was a balmy 43 degrees which smashes the previous low max for this date of 54
degrees set in 1982. We needed the rain here but we could use a little less
wind. What can you do? Until later....................
Jim
