Snow closes schools in Maritimes, again
Last Updated Mon, 19 Jan 2004 19:26:26
MONCTON - Thousands of children in the Maritimes stayed home from school
again on Monday because of bad winter weather. In Moncton, it was the
fourth straight day of cancelled classes.
>Local school superintendent Karen Branscombe says a blizzard was
>responsible for Monday's cancellation. Most school boards in Nova Scotia
>also cancelled classes on Monday, following a snowfall warning for most of
>the province with up to 20 centimetres of snow expected for the mainland
>and Cape Breton.

It was the same story on Prince Edward Island. All schools were closed
Monday by what Environment Canada called a heavy snowfall. Between 10 and
15 centimetres fell, combined with strong winds.

Branscombe says Moncton averages three storm days per school year. This
year, there have already been seven and storm season is far from over.
