At least 31 people have been killed in northern India, mostly in road
accidents as dense fog engulfs the region.

The Press Trust of India said 19 motorists were killed in separate
fog-related highway accidents in the state of Uttar Pradesh over the past
24 hours.

Three homeless people also died in the winter cold.

Heavy fog has claimed nine lives in road crashes in the northern state
of Haryana since last Friday.
