"Following severe weather warnings from the Met Office predicting heavy
snow over the next 48 hours in Scotland, we are advising motorists that
roads may become hazardous and to postpone journeys wherever possible," she
said.
TEMPERATURES across Scotland plummeted yesterday, making parts of the
country colder than Moscow.
The lowest overnight temperature of -15C was recorded at Loch Glascarnoch
in Wester Ross, while the mercury fell to -8.5C on Cairngorm yesterday and
to -7.5C in Inverness and -7C in Glasgow. In contrast, the temperature in
Moscow was 3C.
Met Office forecasters say higher areas of Scotland and northern England
will be affected by heavy snow combined with gale-force winds this
afternoon and early evening, with blizzards expected in some areas, leaving
Hogmanay partygoers facing a wet, cold and possibly hazardous start to next
year."
