CEDAR CITY -- A freakish lightning and thunder storm lighted up the Cedar
City sky and rattled windows late Sunday night and early Monday morning,
leaving about 2 inches of snow on the ground in the valley, but a foot of
fresh powder on the mountains.
Jackson said usually winter storms are not quite as violent as spring and
summer storms because the air is being lifted to the atmosphere much more
slowly.
"You do, occasionally, get systems that will produce clouds and storms that
have violent motions and turbulence like Sunday night," he said. "But it's
uncommon."
