"(CNN) -- The season's first big snowstorm draped the Northeast in white
Saturday, with blizzard warnings posted for Long Island and parts of
southern New England and coastal Maine, and 1-2 feet expected across
central and northern New England during the next two days.
Riverdale in Bronx County, New York, reported 23 inches as of 8 p.m. EST.
The storm was centered about 105 miles east of New York City late Saturday
afternoon. Winds in the New York City area were gusting to 35 mph., and a
blizzard warning was in place until late Saturday, when the snow was
expected to taper off.
At LaGuardia Airport, most flights were canceled. Those that were not were
landing and taking off with 30-minute delays, the Port Authority of New
York and New Jersey reported.
At Newark Liberty International Airport, 200 flights were canceled, and
delays of 30 minutes to three hours were the norm. At John F. Kennedy
International Airport, numerous cancellations were reported.
Baltimore-Washington International Airport shut for a half-hour in the
afternoon."
