"CALLING LAKE, Alta. (CP) - An RCMP cruiser was blown off the road by
powerful winds from a tornado that reportedly formed over this lake in
northern Alberta on Monday evening, says Environment Canada.
Meteorologist Gary Brown said the RCMP phoned to report that a tornado had
touched down just before 7 p.m. Environment Canada could not immediately
confirm what it was. The officer told his detachment that his car had been
blown off the road and that he saw a twister travelling over the waters of
Calling Lake, about 130 kilometres north of Edmonton.
The officer was not injured and his vehicle was not seriously damaged,
Brown said.
As the twister moved northwest onto land, it tore apart trees, said Brown,
adding the storm also packed golf-ball sized hail."
