"PARIS, France (CNN) -- An estimated 3,000 people have died in France of
heat-related causes in the past two weeks, the health ministry says.

Temperatures have been above 37 C (100 F) for days. Typically, the
temperature in August in Paris is around 23 C (75 F).

The heat wave was forecast to continue in the south of France. Firefighters
were battling devastating blazes in forests and scrublands in southern
France, Italy, Portugal and Spain."
