"An engineer who examined photos of last week's tornado has agreed with
South Florida meteorologists that it rated an F1 on the Fujita scale of
tornado strength, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.
Pfost and associates came to northern Palm Beach County last week to study
the damage caused by the main tornado and a smaller one. Pfost asked Tim
Marshall, an engineer and meteorologist at Dallas-based Haag Engineering,
for a second opinion. Marshall decided weather service officials correctly
ruled the main twister was at the high end of the F1 category, with winds
of 73-112 mph. An F2 has winds of 113-157 mph.
Authorities now say 236 structures were affected, with 33 destroyed and 28
suffering major damage, said John Tatum of the county Division of Emergency
Management."
