Today's just not my day. This morning, I missed a "large waterspout" (see
next article) and tonight I missed the biggest lightning storm at
WeatherMatrix HQ this year, maybe ever!
The maps tell me this... at 10 pm in the last 3 hours there was one
cloud-to-ground lightning strike within 25 feet of my house in State
College PA and another within 100 feet. There were over 862
cloud-to-ground strikes within a 8 mile radius of my house during the
storms, according to LightningStorm.com.

My lightning detector registered over 87,000 counts today so far, as of
10pm with over 1,000 counts per minute at 7:30pm, both of which may be an
all-time record since the detector was put up in 1999.

My other lightning detector registered a max count of 8,250 and I believe
it maxes out at 10,000.

The closest strike could have hit my weather station pole again, as it did
a couple years ago, but I am out of town so I am unable to confirm this and
my housesitter was not there at the time. There was not a lengthy power
outage however and no major damage has occurred as the weather station and
lightning detectors area still uploading data continuously still at 10pm.
