Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the unluckiest place on earth. I have
had no luck in the month of June here at my homestead in the hills. I have had
three tornadoes in June (1998, 2000, 2002) and today at 4:48 PM as I was
watching an approaching severe thunderstorm, a funnel cloud dropped out of the
storm 1 mile west of my location. It was just in front of a rain shield and
lasted just over one minute before it dissipated. And then the storm hit. At 4:51 I
had a wind gust of 56 mph and 1/4 inch hail. The sky was a dark green/black
as the storm hit. No damage reports as of yet. Rainfall was just over a half
inch. I reported the funnel cloud, strong wind gusts, and hail to the NWS. After
my report, no severe thunderstorm warning or tornado watch or warning were
issued for my county or the county (Franklin County, PA) where the storm
traveled to next. I guess they had better things to do. Oh well. Hopefully this is my
June weather from hell and I can go back to just receiving the nearly
everyday flooding rains that I have grown to know and love. The storm is approx. 12
miles NNE of my location now and the thunder claps are still rattling my
windows. It could have been much worse. Until later.
