QUOTES:
"While most of Broward County had dried out from Wednesday's bombardment of
showers -- in some places 10 inches of rain fell -- several portions of the
county remained soggy Thursday.
Commuters attempting to get to work Wednesday morning found themselves
making detours around streets still flooded.
A sloth of rain slashed across eastern Pompano Beach Tuesday and dropped
almost nine inches of rain in just a few hours. Federal Highway in Dania
Beach is now open after being shut down for several hours after churning
flood waters made the road impassable.
Stalled cars lined sections of Powerline Road and Broward Boulevard where
water pooled several feet high.
Homeowners watched helplessly as water lapped against doorways and seeped
into living rooms. Several roofs collapsed leaving families searching for
shelter. More than 30 families had flooding in their homes -- the majority
from sloshing water caused by motorists driving by, said Tony Carper,
Broward's Emergency Management director.
Many portions of Oakland Park Boulevard east of I-95 were still under water."
