"LONDON, England -- Passengers aboard a flight from Cyprus to the UK said
they thought their aircraft was about to crash as it was battered by
hailstones.

The bmi flight ran into the violent weather as it approached Manchester
from Larnaca, causing the nose cone to cave in and the windshield to crack.

Terrified passengers were thrown from their seats and oxygen masks were
shaken loose from above the seats as the Airbus A321 rapidly descended to a
safer altitude.

Johnstone described the damage to the aircraft: "A lot of the wings were
pockmarked by hail, the nose cone was inverted and the windscreen was
shattered but not punctured through." "
