             PEELED BACK ON BARN AT WILDLIFE HOSPITAL. TREE UPROOTED
             AT RESIDENCE IN HOBE SOUND.

"The tornado, first reported about 3:30 p.m. near Florida's Turnpike west
of Hobe Sound, moved east along Bridge Road, hitting the wildlife hospital,
ripping up trees behind the Subway sandwich shop on U.S. 1 and roaring into
the Atlantic Ocean.

There were no reports of injuries or serious damage.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Melbourne said sparse
power outages were reported when power lines fell in heavy winds.

Weather Service forecaster Pete Blottman said residents "lucked out" with
the tornado's relatively rural location.

"Where it was strongest was in the middle of fields," he said, "not where
people were."

David Smith, coordinator of Martin County Skywarn, said spotters reported
tornado sightings in the Banner Lake section of Hobe Sound and Poinciana
Gardens."

of South Fork High School, and the tropical farms area of Martin County
west of Interstate 95 and the Florida turnpike.

There has been damage reported to several areas, including the Treasure
Coast Animal Hospital; some minor damage has been reported to mobile homes
closer to U.S. 1.

South Fork High School was locked down for about 25 minutes when reports of
the tornado were broadcast."
