QUOTES:

"SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Rescue workers on Saturday dropped bread and
milk from helicopters to thousands of motorists stranded overnight on South
Korea's main highway because of a blizzard. Nearly 2,200 vehicles and 3,900
people remained trapped on the highway, Chung said. The highway
corporation, which also mobilized 1,841 civilian personnel and 983
snowplows and other vehicles, said it hopes to free the travelers within
the day.

The military deployed 20,000 soldiers and military equipment, including
eight helicopters, in the rescue effort, the Defense Ministry said. The
government estimated about 150 billion won (US$125 million) worth of
property damages from the snow storm which began Friday.

Most of the cars were stuck in central South Korea, where a record snowfall
of up to 49 centimeters (19.3 inches) forced roads to close and hundreds of
schools to shut.

The Korean Meteorological Administration said it was the heaviest snowfall
in the region since 1969 when it began collecting weather data there. "

water and power. Trains and airplanes were interrupted.... As snow shut
down the highways, automobiles began to clog local roads. A total of 1,126

without power between 6:52 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in Sachang-dong,
