"NEAR-cyclonic conditions began lashing south-east Queensland today,
causing blackouts and initial minor damage. The strong winds, heavy rain
and large waves have been generated by an intense low which is about 100km
north-east of Bundaberg and is moving south.
The Weather Bureau has warned coastal communities from Gladstone in central
Queensland to the NSW border to prepare for gale force conditions. A State
Emergency Services (SES) spokeswoman said crews had started receiving
callouts for minor damage. So far it has mostly been minor roof damage and
damaged trees around the Gold Coast.
Destructive wind gusts up to 130km/h are expected to develop between about
Rundle Island and the Sunshine Coast, gradually extending southwards to the
Gold Coast during the day. The bureau said damaging wind gusts up to
100km/h might develop up to about 120km inland south of Gayndah this
afternoon and overnight."
