"The Fire Brigade were kept busy Thursday March 4 in the afternoon as heavy
rains swept across the inner islands, inundating Victoria and northern Mahé.
Responding to over a dozen calls the fire fighters downed their hoses and
instead got to work clearing fallen trees and unblocking flooded roads.
According to Mr Laporte flooding in Victoria was heaviest around the Clock
Tower, Huteau Lane and Albert St, but the severest effects of the downpour
were felt elsewhere.
A small landslide occurred opposite the former FEBA (Far East Broadcasting
Association) station at Anse Etoile, while bigger slips stopped traffic in
front of the Seychelles Institute of Management and on the St. Louis road.
Met Office forecaster, Vincent Amelie, explained that the unseasonable
downpour had been caused by the tropical cyclone Gafilo.
Having formed some 400kms to the south east of Agalega Island, Gafilo is
moving west, with what Mr Amelie termed a "feeder belt," responsible for
the local heavy rain."
