[STORMREPORTS] Ice Jams Near Albany NY

"Zoerner said, "We woke up, came down and looked out the window and it was
like that. It wasn't like that yesterday. It was a nice little stream
cutting through the middle of the ice, but that was it. I heard some bangs
last night and thought it was the wind."

It wasn't the wind. It was actually an ice jam forming. The water came so
close to Zoerner's home, it almost sucked in her car. She said, "I was
kind of scared the car was gonna get yanked away. And it almost did, but we
had it pulled out."

The ice jam on the Schoharie Creek stretches for miles in either direction.

Nestel said, "The ice is anywhere from 16 inches to 20.4 inches thick on
the river. So it's going to be awhile for us to get the river to let loose.
Until then, as long as these ice jams don't go anywhere, the water is going
to be high for awhile."

Although no one has been evacuated just yet, Nestel said the forecast of
warm weather and rain could put folks in a different kind of jam that would
force them out of their homes."
