"Heavy rain and gale-force winds buffeted Northern California Tuesday,
flooding vineyards and homes in Napa and Sonoma counties and raising fears
that the Russian River might reach flood stage this morning.
The downpours were often accompanied by gale-force winds -- San Francisco
Airport reported a gust of 63 mph at 3 p.m.; Bodega Bay reported a gust of
more than 60 mph; Mount Diablo recorded a 71 mph gust; and one weather
observer clocked a gust of 75 mph at San Francisco's Twin Peaks.
Farther north, the storm dropped 11.39 inches in Cazadero along Austin
Creek north of the Russian River in 48 hours. "
