"Four people have been killed in the past two days of heavy rain in the
Lindi region of southern Tanzania, a regional official said Wednesday.
Some 20 villages in the district of Rwangwa were affected by floods and the
deaths took place in four separate villages, according to district
commissioner Fatuma Mikidadi.
She said the rain, which reaches a scale of 90.5 millimeters, caused floods
in valleys in the district, submerging 5,314 acres of field which was
expected to produce 3,320 tons of maize.
A number of bridges were also damaged during the flood, she added."
