=====
On Monday Feb 10th, a weak storm brought a dusting to light accumulation
of snow to parts of the area.
There was 1-3" of snow in the forecast for the Mid Atlantic on Monday.
Because it was at or just above 32 during the event, most of the snow
melted on contact or a slight accumulation on non pavement surfaces. The
Shenandoah Valley & mountains had minor accumulations.

February 10-13th Super Snow Storm of 1983
It was the first huge snow storm that i remember (>12"). We had 33" that
fell from 9pm Thursday to 1am Saturday. It snowed at 3-4" per hour from
9am to 4pm on the 11th.
I was delivering papers at the time, and the Friday & Saturday papers
did not get to my house until Sunday afternoon. There was only an hour
of daylight left, so i delivered them Monday am, except for a couple
blocks that yet to be bulldozed out. The papers were late Monday
afternoon, & a block of apt buildimgs had to wait to Tuesday to get
their Mon papers.
Schools were closed from Friday to Thursday.
In downtown Winchester, they removed snow by front end loaders, a huge
blower & dump trucks.
My brother & I would fight over who would shovel the sidewalk at the
time. My mom had settled the argument at the start of the winter. We
would take turns, & it was his turn. He was upset when a neighbor was
using his thrower on our walk at 9am Fri. I assured them would be plenty
left. On Saturday, our family of 7 took turns shoveling out 4 cars & the
sidewalks.
I had agreed to shovel a driveway out a block away, in time for for
someone who was to fly home that day. I asked that day if i should wait
till it quits, or start then (about 3pm Fri). She wanted it done that
evening. I worked about an hour, and shoveled a few yards square. It was
snowing so heavy that my effort was quickly covered up. I left, without
seeking payment, & returned the next day to find it been cleared. I did
find something to shovel for pay.
The piles at our home was 7 feet tall & went back 10 feet back from the
sidewalk. Snow was waist deep when walking on terra firma.
NWS information:
http://wxmatrix-membersonly/group/VA_StormNet/message/20789
One to three foot totals were common in the northeast & mid Atlantic.

=======
A major winter storm is forecast for the mid Atlantic this weekend.
Current forecast is for a small acumulation (1-3") of snow Friday
evening (& night some areas) with a changover to freezing rain & IP (Ice
pellets, sleet) Friday Night & Saturday morning. A change to
accumulating & perhaps heavy snow Saturday afternoon & night, along with
a rapid temperature fall late Saurday.
The fresh surge of cold air _may_ keep steadier snow south of the
northern VA & central MD region for Sunday & Sunday night. Then again,
it might continue to snow.
This is an ever changing forecast w/ a complex storm patern.
Remember VA based weather is available anytime (newest messages at the
bottom) at

More later as a wintry weekend nears...
