HEADLINES:

Conflict Between Strong Arctic High Pressure And Very Moist Storm May Trigger
Widespread (Mostly Frozen) Precipitation Across Eastern Two-Thirds Of U.S.
Through the Weekend (SEE SPECIAL SECTION BELOW); Moderating Temperature Trend
For Lower 48 States Next Week

** SPECIAL SECTION **** SPECIAL SECTION **** SPECIAL SECTION **
EXPECTED NORTH AMERICA SEVERE OR EXTREME WEATHER DURING THE WEEKEND STORM:

Potential outlines for precipitation types are as follows for the weekend
storm. The exact setup for rain vs. ice vs. snow is (of course) a tough
call, especially since the very impressive cAk anticyclone will serve to
block warming at the lowest levels (which probably implies a synoptic scale
ice storm for parts of the Ohio Valley, Appalachia and the Tidewater
vicinity). When the center of the system either jumps to or redevelops
along the VA Capes, the potential exists for a prolonged (12-18 hour)
freezing rain and sleet event with very heavy snow across the Mid-Atlantic
region and extreme southern New England. It will probably not be until
Monday morning before the East Coast is rid of this significant storm. In
the meantime, everyone living from the Front Range to the Interstate 95
corridor had better be on guard for a diverse display of the worst that
winter has to offer!
