From today's Middletown Journal:
Snow rollers dot area
By Michael Kurtz, Journal Staff Writer, E-mail: mkurtz{at}coxohio.com
High winds capped off a wild weather day Tuesday.
After two inches of snow fell in about a two-hour period in the morning,
wind speeds climbed to more than 50 mph late Tuesday night.
Meteorologist Allen Randall of the National Weather Service's Wilmington
bureau said wind speeds hit 51 mph in Dayton about midnight. They hit a
peak of 38 mph at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and 43 mph in Cincinnati.
No damage was reported, but some area residents woke up to find a strange
phenomena in their yards.
Snow rollers, the official designation given by the National Weather
Service, are made by heavy winds blowing snow in straight lines across fields.
